The Lifestyle Counselor Internship is designed to further train individuals to work in a Lifestyle Center setting who have completed a program similar or equivalent to the Lifestyle Counselor program.
The Lifestyle Counselor Intern will be directly mentored by the LC Director and LC Supervisor. Training will take place on-the-job. This will develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to perform the specific duties of the Lifestyle Counselor. These duties include: history taking, communication of and assistance with implementing the medical staff’s care plan, counseling individuals in personal and lifestyle matters, giving health lectures, conducting hands-on nutrition and exercise classes, giving hydrotherapy treatments and basic massage, etc.
The 7-session internship (or 5 months) includes a shadowing phase and a leading out phase.
Session 1: Shadowing
Session 2: Leading
Sessions 3 to 7: Lifestyle Counselor
The Lifestyle Counselor Internship program includes room, board, and tuition for the entire period of training, in exchange for your service as a Lifestyle Counselor Intern.
The HPI Program offers a mixture of didactic and practical/hands-on classes related to the care of persons with health challenges, as well as classes on spirituality and Christian living. Over the first six months of training, classes will be taken in unison with our Lifestyle Counselor (LC) Program for the first 6 months (see LC class descriptions for more information). Classes will likely include: Health Center Orientation, Swedish & Therapeutic Massage, Tropical Pathology, Christ’s Methods, Christian Administration, Christian Leadership, Common Diseases, Food Service Management, Therapeutic Nutrition, Herbal Remedies, Canvassing, Physiology of Hydrotherapy, Hydrotherapy Practicum, Phlebotomy, Biblical Counseling, and Nature’s Healing Practices, as well as daily 1-hour chapel classes.
Interns are residents in the dormitory. See Trainee Handbook section “Trainee Life”.

There are many things I can say about my Uchee Pines experience, but here are a few things that stood out the most:
Uchee Pines has a very distinguished Lifestyle Center. It not only met my expectations but exceeded them. I came to Uchee Pines as an intern and was here for six months in the capacity of Lifestyle Counselor. Right away, as I met the staff and other students, a warm atmosphere and ready acceptance made me feel right at home.
I was very impressed with the medical staff at the Lifestyle Center. They addressed not only the physical and the mental, but also the spiritual needs of the lifestyle guests. They went beyond the call of duty in dedicating their time, even until the wee hours of the day. Where a guest was in need, someone was there, indeed.
Whether it was a physician or Lifestyle Counselor, all have been a blessing to me. Through my experience with the physicians, I learned new ways of reaching out, new aspects of counseling and more ways of pointing individuals to Christ as their Chief Physician.
The facility is immaculate. It affords efficiency, cleanliness, space, and best of all, a charming rural environment. I have seen guests blessed just by being in nature. So many are looking for a retreat, away from the hassle of everyday experiences city stresses. Uchee Pines is the place.
Finally, I have learned much. Having a lifestyle guest assigned to me was a blessing. I’ve learned new simple remedies, and had the opportunity to evaluate the causes of disease and the experiences of fellow Lifestyle Counselors. I will be sharing with people the things I have learned that they, too, can be blessed.
Uchee Pines staff and students, continue on doing what you are doing for the Lord!
